Ian’s practice at the bar is substantially involved with major construction disputes, in commercial arbitrations and Court references pursuant to Part 20 of NSW UCP Rules.

His practice includes the conduct of commercial and technical proceedings as an arbitrator and Court appointed referee.  Alternative dispute resolution as a mediator, adjudicator and expert in expert determinations is a related aspect of his practice

Admitted to the Bar in NSW in 1983 and appointed Senior Counsel in 2004.  For ten years before 1980 he was a practising architect in Sydney. 

 

National Vice President of the Institute of Arbitrators and Mediators Australia 2004 to 2008 and a Grade 1 arbitrator.  Author Construction Law in Australia (3rd Edn late 2008) and Chapter 27.7: Professional Liability, Architects and Engineers in Laws of Australia.  Co-author with Matthew Bell, of Understanding Australian Construction Contracts (late 2008).

 

Ian Bailey is a Professorial Fellow of the University of Melbourne Law School and Co-director of Studies for the Construction Law Graduate Program and an Adjunct Professor in the Faculty of Law at UTS.
